The Wisconsin Health Information Management Association (WHIMA) proudly recognizes Chris Rys, RHIA, as the recipient of the 2026 WHIMA Motivator Award. Chris was honored during the WHIMA Annual Conference on May 12, 2026, in Wisconsin Dells.
The WHIMA Motivator Award recognizes an outstanding member who is dedicated to continued learning for both themselves and others. It honors individuals who encourage students and colleagues to achieve their full potential through mentorship, leadership, and professional development.
Throughout her distinguished career, Chris has exemplified these qualities through her unwavering commitment to the Health Information Management (HIM) profession. As an HIM Manager at UW Health, an Adjunct Professor, and an active volunteer with AHIMA, ILHIMA, and WHIMA, she has inspired and supported countless students, new professionals, and colleagues through mentorship, education, advocacy, and service.
Whether mentoring a new graduate, hosting Professional Practice Experience (PPE) students, teaching future HIM professionals, or encouraging colleagues to become engaged in the profession, Chris consistently leads by example. She is known for generously sharing her knowledge, fostering professional growth, and motivating others with her integrity, encouragement, and genuine commitment to helping people succeed.
Chris’s passion for lifelong learning and her dedication to developing future HIM leaders have made a lasting impact on our profession. Her leadership continues to inspire others to learn, grow, and become active contributors to the HIM community.
