Department Description

The School of Health Care Professions (SHCP) encompasses the academic majors of Athletic Training, Clinical Laboratory Science, Health Science, HIMT, and Nursing. Further, Clinical Laboratory Science has the following options: Cytotechnology, Histotechnology, or Medical Technology, and Health Science encompasses the following options: Pre-Athletic Training, Pre-Physical therapy, Per-Occupational Therapy, Health Care Administration and Health Care informatics. Also included in the SCHP is a pre-nursing course of study.

Position Summary

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) participates in the University of Wisconsin-Extension, Division of Continuing Education, Outreach and E-Learning (CEOEL) online Health Information Management and Technology (HIMT) Bachelor’s degree program with three other campuses (UW-Green Bay, UW-Parkside, and UW-La Crosse). This degree is a fully online 60-credit (20 three-credit courses) Bachelor of Science degree. CEOEL supports the program through marketing, instructional design, recruitment, information technology, media, and student services.

The HIMT Program Director will work closely with the SHCP Chair, the UWSP Academic Director for HIMT, and the UWSP Continuing Education Program Manager in the development of local marketing, recruitment, student services, and online courses that deliver curriculum and services consistent with the collaboration/authorization agreement. The UWSP HIMT Program Director will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with standards and meeting accreditation requirements. This position has flexibility on the location of the individual, including the option to be based remotely.

For remote individuals, a minimum of four face-to-face meetings are required each year. This will include campus visits in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and HIMT UW-Extension meetings and symposiums in Madison, Wisconsin. At least partial travel and lodging expenses will be reimbursed according to UW travel policy and processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree – HIMT or health related discipline.
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) and The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) accreditation processes and protocols

Preferred Qualifications

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with online learning environments and virtual convening of multiple partners.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and staff.
  • Significant experience working with higher educational institutions, and at least four years of professional experiences in fields relevant to this position.
  • Able to use an array of technology tools including databases, Microsoft office suite, social networking and database programs.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills; can effectively direct and integrate all aspects of a project or program, ensuring that work progresses toward achieving goals and objective on time and on budget.

Education Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree – HIMT or health related discipline.
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).

Anticipated Appointment Date: May 29, 2018

Terms of Employment: This is a 9-month, Academic Staff academic appointment, exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Minimum salary is $33,092. Final offered salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
