WHIMA Undergraduate Scholarship Application

To Qualify for a Scholarship, the Following Criteria Must be Met:

  1. Completed application and essay must be submitted by February 28th.
  2. Must be a student member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) AND of the Wisconsin Health Information Management Association (WHIMA).
  3. Must be enrolled in a Commission on Accreditation for Health Information and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) accredited Health Information Administration program or Health Information Technology program at the time the scholarship funds are awarded.
  4. Must have successfully completed at least one semester of a program.
  5. Must document a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and submit a current unofficial college transcript with the application.
  6. A minimum of two letters of recommendation are required (may be personal or professional).
  7. Previous awardees may submit an application biennially (every other year).

Essay/Research Topic

The essay is reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1250 words.
    Essay title, references and citations are excluded from the word count.
  • Clarity of essay.
  • References are required and must be appropriately cited.
  • Correct use of grammar and punctuation.

Health Information Management (HIM) covers a broad range of areas with many regulations impacting the industry. Identify a current issue for HIM and explain how it is impacting the field. (Select one issue and support your rationale with references and citations.)
