Congratulations to Miah Hansen, RHIT! One of WHIMA’s 2023 Outstanding Student Award recipients! Miah was recognized for this award at the WHIMA Annual Conference in Wisconsin Dells! This is the first year for the Outstanding Student Award.  The objective of the award is to recognize students who are demonstrating excellence, leadership, and commitment to the HIM profession and their future career, who are student members of AHIMA and WHIMA, and who have completed two semesters at a CAHIIM Accredited School with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Miah is known as an exemplary student as is reflected in her grades, professional appearance, behavior, studies, leadership, and academic achievements.  Miah was nominated by her classmates to take on the leadership role as the President of the Health Information Technology and Medical Coding Specialist Club (HIT/MCS). This role will require her to invest many hours in keeping HIT/MCS club members up to date on upcoming AHIMA, WHIMA, and Student Government events.

In addition to these outstanding student characteristics, Miah began coding full-time at Tomah Health after the first year of the HIT program and has been a volunteer for WHIMA by helping at the Conference registration desk and as a presiding officer.

Miah’s volunteering goes beyond WHIMA.  She volunteers and provides leadership for the HIT/MCS club with community service projects such as the Wafer Food Pantry, Rotary Lights, and adopting a family at Christmas.

Miah, Congratulations on this well-deserved award!
