President-elect Bryanna Schoeffel and Policy Advocacy Legislative (PAL) team co-chair Chrisann Lemery represented WHIMA at the AHIMA Advocacy Summit on March 11-12, 2024, in Washington DC. Monday began with a thought-provoking conversation on the present and future of artificial intelligence (AI) with OCR Director Melanie Fontes Rainer and AHIMA CEO Kevin Klauer exploring the administration’s goals for AI and its implications for privacy and healthcare professionals. A panel followed on advancing Data for Better Health® (D4BH) delving into the critical role of social determinants of health (SDOH) in shaping health outcomes and strategies for advocating for SDOH initiatives in Washington. The morning ended with a panel of industry experts providing insights into the challenges and progress of integrating ICD-11 in the United States led by AHIMA senior director of coding policy and compliance Sue Bowman.
