WHIMA Workshop – Coding Roundtable

Over 40 years of experience in Health Information Management witnessing the advent of DRGs, ICD-10 coding and now preparations for HIM-Reimagined! Twenty years of involvement with hiring, training and managing coding functions. The most recent 4 years have been focused on the formal education preparing HIT students for entry into the field of Health Information. Earned the RHIT credential in 1975, a Bachelor’s Degree in 1995 and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership and Quality in 2008.

Currently employed full time as the HIT Program Coordinator for Rasmussen College in Green Bay.

Currently full time Nursing Faculty at Rasmussen College. Completed Master’s in Nursing, with a focus in Leadership and Management in 2011. Enjoys the education side of Nursing – “why only touch one life when you can touch the lives of thousand through the hands and hearts of others”.  In her free time, she enjoys singing with her church and hanging out with her family.

Becky Smith has twenty years in-field experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician with six years in a management role.  She earned a Master’s in Business Administration and has specialization in Chemistry. Currently, Becky is the Program Coordinator for the Medical Laboratory Technician Program at Rasmussen College for the past 9 years.

Julie Rasmussen is a Certified Medical Assistant with over 25 years of clinical experience.  For the past 9 years she has been working at Rasmussen College as the Medical Assisting Program Coordinator and Associate Instructor. Julie has an Associate Degree in Medical Assisting and a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Education.   Julie teaches both online and residential Medical Assisting courses.  She helps coordinate the Colleges Medical Assisting externships and clinical placements with over 20 area healthcare organizations.  Julie also acts as a Medical Assisting Program Specialist with The Allied Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) programmatic accreditation team.

Jeanne Matz, RHIT, is a DRG Auditor for the Honor Health Organization based in Arizona.  She has an Associate’s degree in HIM, a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Informatics, holds a CompTIA Project+ Certification with 6 years’ experience in both compliance and DRG auditing.

Cathy Maynard has 15 years coding experience and is an inpatient coder with ThedaCare-Neenah. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management from the University of Cincinnati and has RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) and CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) credentials. Cathy is has coded inpatient, trauma, rehabilitation, outpatient and clinic accounts. She also has experience with processing billing edits, denials and auditing and educating physicians and coders.

Susan is employed at R1 RCM, Inc., a revenue cycle management company which provides coding services for Ascension. She has 30 years of experience in the HIM field, most recently as a home-based inpatient coder for the last 5 years. Susan is a member of AHIMA and is credentialed as a Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-Based.

Tammy Meyers is a graduate of Rasmussen College-Green Bay campus Health Information Technology Program in 2016. She completed the professional practicum internship at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton and was subsequently hired by St. Elizabeth Hospital as a Coding Support Specialist.  Currently working on preparations to sit for the RHIT Exam through AHIMA.
