Colleen Goethals, MS, RHIA, FAHIMA, has been honored with the WHIMA’s Distinguished Service Award for 2024. This prestigious accolade was presented to her during the recognition lunch at the WHIMA Annual Conference in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

The Distinguished Service Award is designed to acknowledge both WHIMA members and non-members who have made significant, commendable, and long-standing contributions through their service to WHIMA. The award’s criteria include exemplary service to the Association, innovation, and creativity, volunteering to advance WHIMA’s goals, or supporting the Association’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan through special efforts or leadership.

Those familiar with Colleen have witnessed her exceptional dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to advancing the field of Health Information (HI) and to WHIMA. At the national level, Colleen’s contributions to numerous AHIMA committees have advanced advocacy initiatives, and her tenure as an AHIMA Board Director has shaped policies with lasting impacts. Her recognition as an AHIMA Fellow underscores her significant and sustained contributions to the profession that exemplifies AHIMA’s mission to “empower people to impact health®” through advocacy, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

Colleen has also been a staunch advocate at the state level for both Wisconsin and Illinois, participating in Washington DC Hill Day. As an accomplished speaker and author, Colleen has shared her expertise and wisdom on leadership, privacy, and revenue cycle management with WHIMA and audiences across the country.  In 2023, she led WHIMA’s leadership in developing the current strategic plan for the Association.

Her exceptional service and contributions to WHIMA and the HI community at large make her a respected recipient of the WHIMA Distinguished Service Award for 2024. Colleen’s leadership, innovation, and unwavering dedication truly make her the ideal honoree for this year’s award.
