Enhanced CEU Learning Options

We heard you! We’re upping our game when it comes to options for the free continuing education units (CEU) you receive with membership. We started this year with quarterly webinars on timely topics (fourth quarter webinar—Success Skills: Brainstorming Mechanisms for Unlocking Creativity) — available November 8 (provides one CEU). We’re rolling out an enhanced suite of learning opportunities in 2024 that are updated, substantive, meaningful, and relevant. And we’ll continue to improve content going forward. Stay tuned.

Expanded CEU Opportunities

We’re also excited to share updates to the recertification process recently approved by the Certification Commission for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM). The new policy provides more options for earning CEUs, recognizes a wider range of experiences for CEU reporting, awards CEUs for professional development activities you’re already doing, and elevates the authority and credibility of AHIMA certifications. New opportunities to earn CEUs include:

  • serving in AHIMA/Component Association (CA) volunteer positions
  • completing a self-assessment
  • earning an additional AHIMA certification or microcredential

Plus, up to 20 percent of CEUs earned above the required amount and obtained during the last three months of your current cycle can be “rolled over” to the next recertification cycle. Finally, to ensure quality learning and affirm the prestige of our credentials, a minimum of 40 percent of CEUs must come directly from AHIMA. These changes take effect January 1, 2024, for anyone beginning a two-year recertification cycle next year.
