At the recent WHIMA Award and Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, Hilary Wolf, RHIT, was honored with the prestigious Professional Practice Mentor Award for her exceptional dedication to health information education. This accolade recognizes individuals who exemplify outstanding mentorship and support for emerging health information professionals.

The award ceremony, held during the WHIMA Annual Conference in Elkhart Lake, highlighted Hilary’s significant contributions to mentoring students in the field of health information (HI). As a mentor, Hilary goes above and beyond to provide valuable learning experiences in the workplace and guidance to students pursuing careers in HI.

Hilary Wolf’s approach to mentorship is characterized by kindness, compassion, and a deep commitment to professional growth. Her impact on students is profound, as evidenced by testimonials from those she has mentored. One student recalled their initial nerves being quickly alleviated by Hilary’s supportive demeanor. “She made everything very relatable,” they said, reflecting on Hilary’s guidance with both paper and electronic medical records.  “She gave me the confidence to continue in this field and that one day I could be where she is now.”

Another student fondly remembered Hilary as a mentor who was very flexible, understanding, kind, and knowledgeable and who made learning enjoyable and memorable. “I felt I was talking to and learning from an old friend instead of a mentor. I found myself remembering the small things she taught me as I sat for and passed my RHIT exam.”

Even educators in the field commend Hilary’s dedication. A HIT educator expressed gratitude for Hilary’s consistent willingness to mentor students, noting her positive impact on the future of HIM professionals. “Her willingness to mentor our students is a true testimony to her professionalism,” the educator emphasized.
