Message from WHIMA President Wil Limp, MS, RHIA

This was part of an email from Dr. Kaplan, CEO at UW Health, that he sent recently, but I think it applies to WHIMA as well. I could not have written it any better. That is why I am “borrowing” it for my first President’s message. I changed a couple of things to make it fit WHIMA, but here we go.

“It has been 12 months filled with challenges – two surges in the COVID-19 pandemic, national staffing shortages, and now inflationary pressures driven by war, pandemic, supply chains, and other uncertainties. As you know, these challenges affect us on many levels, personally, operationally, and for WHIMA financially. With this as context, I could not be more proud of how all of you as leaders at  WHIMA helped guide us through this period of stress and uncertainty.”  Dr. Allen Kaplan, CEO UW Health

Everything Dr. Kaplan said is true. We have overcome some pretty big obstacles as a group and individually. Not just the past 12 months, but the past few years have seen WHIMA change and grow into the professional organization we have today. WHIMA is the premier association in Wisconsin not because we have all of the answers, but because we know that we don’t and because we continue to try to do better all the time.

I am confident of one thing as I start my tenure as President and Chief Delegate, we will face more obstacles over the next 12 months too. Some we already know about and are preparing for, and some that will surprise us, but I can confidently say that we will be OK as a professional organization because we have great leadership on the board and we have great participation from members who are dedicated to making sure that we will continue to try to do better all the time.

I am honored to serve as WHIMA President and look forward to facing all of the challenges and growing with all of you.

Thank you,
Wil Limp, MS, RHIA
