WHIMA Spotlight on Trauma Registrar

Laura Gerovac, PT and HIT Student

Meet WHIMA member Laura Gerovac!  Some of you may know Laura from her participation on the WHIMA Annual Conference Planning Team.  During an interview, we learned more about Laura’s education, experience, and volunteerism.

Laura works for Froedtert Health as a Trauma Registrar.  She will graduate in December 2021, from the Health Information Technology (HIT) program at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC).  Laura has been a licensed physical therapist (PT) for over 20 years.  She enjoyed being a PT and saw the evolution of healthcare and health information management over the years.  What intrigued her the most was the impact and focus on improving patient quality of care and experiences.  She wanted to be a part of that.  She searched for a role that would allow her to combine her past experiences and enrolled in WCTC’s Health Information Technology program in January 2020.

Laura is a fairly new member of WHIMA who is excited about the networking opportunities and learning experiences that are such terrific benefits of WHIMA!  She embraced AHIMA and WHIMA even before her formal program at WCTC began, orienting herself and preparing for her new career by attending webinars and courses to gain additional knowledge.
